COM TRUISE - IWYWAW

There has been a lot of blog-buzz lately about Com Truise and his "Cyanide Sisters" EP out on AMDISCS label. His music has been described effectively as "biting into a 7 layer cake made completely out of honey in slow motion" or "feeling the sunshine of 1985". We thought his dope tunes deserved an appropriate visual complement so we took IWYWAW and made a fairlight-esque fantasia vid for that. Enjoy!

NEW AAVV RELEASES

HARAPPIAN NIGHT RECORDINGS
I WAS BORN WITH 7 CLITS
DVD AAVV 001

Stitched together from the underbelly of the “lesser genres”, the detritus, the derelict lagans give us the unsound co-ordinates of rasashastra, a rickety frame, on which we can pin our blackest bilge shit. See here the deranged debris of Indonesian horror, the demented dregs of Indian B movie terror, the crazed crap-husks of Czech terror, choice morsels from Moroccan dread cinema, American bollocks photoplay and Lebanese twat flicks.

Harappian Night Recordings is the work of Sayed Kamran Ali, an English artist connected with the Hunter Gracchus/Part Wild Horses Mane On Both Sides collective. His most recent album - The Glorious Gongs Of Hainuwele on Bo'Weavil - mixes field recordings apparently from Southeast Asia with rough household drones, breathing and otherworldly sounds, in an atmosphere that vibrates in places between the coordinates of Sun City Girls/Vibracathedral Orchestra/Uton, spirited nocturnal transmissions, devotional ragas and folk-primitive navigations bathed in a psychedelic derivation.

CADEO
COLORATISSIMO MEGABAZAR
DVD AAVV 002

COLORATISSIMO MEGABAZAR is a deranged journey into 80s italian commercial broadcasters and their fuzzy memories: family christmas programs, late night sofporn shows, new romantic bumpers, glowing ads, hallucinatory jingles, twisted idents, cathodic fantasies gone wrong… All contents and clips are sampled from 1980-1987 Italian TV. Music and dust by Cadeo.

A duo with an uncertain geographical origin, but whose headquarters is settled in Cologno Monzese (Milan) inside the fairy Palazzo dei Cigni, Cadeo is a mysterious audiovisual project born in 2009 as a sort of cunning and enchanted exploration of the TV imaginary world of the 80s. Rhythms reduced to a minimum and wild arpeggios are the soundtrack for a mosaic made up of quotes coming from the commercial television and Milan nightlife in the 80s, all captured in an old dusty VHS. Pop refrains and sparkling jingles alternate with a catabasis towards frozen abysses, old advertisements and soft-porn winkings become more and more a nightmarish loop…

SUMMER'S VAGE CLOUD

Reseda, California is a well-known place. Wiki says:

A number of motion pictures have been produced and set in Reseda and other parts of the San Fernando Valley. Films set in Reseda include The Karate Kid, Boogie nights, Tuff Turf, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, with its car chase scenes down the channel of the Los Angeles River.

I don't care.
To me, Reseda is the place where SFVacid squeezes drowsy acid out his set of classic machines. Check his myspace, buy his CD-r, watch this vid:

WITCHES AND TRIANGLES

Witch House is supposed to be the next big thing in the lo-fi/glo-gaze/hypna-shit/cassette-only/wtf underground (pretty weird, since Salem's early stuff is from 2 years ago...), so you hipsters should already know Cosmotropia de Xam's work as Mater Suspiria Vision, ℑ⊇≥◊≤⊆ℜ, Videodrome Reality, and Pwin ▲▲ Teaks (note the double triangle trick: triangles, together with palms, have been elected official icons of the year). Here is an example from the latter; Cosmotropia's stuff is awesome and we're big fans of his works, so who cares about triangles: at least, palms are not there...

OFFON

This one is a true "obscure classic" made by Scott Bartlett in 1967; it's regarded as the first "videographic" film ever made in the USA; video-loops heavily processed with video colorization techniques and a noisy acid electronic sound-track. Seminal.

SHEER HELLISH MIASMA

A Super blurred maelstrom by Kevin DiTrapano - one half of Imsosorrydad from NYC - coupled with howling soundtrack by Yoga, the "black metal's answer to Throbbing Gristle": the result is pure hell, a video-audio miasma filled with 80's supercars, hallucinating glitches and fake indian deities (or so it seems). This vid was recently featured in 0900 Solar Boarding Pause Alonzo at High Street Project in Christchurch, NZ, together with works by James Ferraro, Daniel Lopatin, Todd Ledford/OESB etc. Sort of hypnagogic who's who, uh?

BE A DIGITAL ROCKSTAR!

Vintage ads, demo reels, "ephemeral movies", old tv bumpers and idents are a great source of inspiration for us; short-lenght means it has to be sheer, dense, effective, all in a glimpse... and, yes, super-kitsch too! Check this Casio CZ101 ad from 1986:

ZONKED

We love Zonk Out. He's the Master of Video Feedback, the Lord of the Glitches, the Maestro of the Self-Generating Patch. No cameras, no tricks: only noise abstractions and aleatoric shapes directly from the rotten bowels of the machine.

TOTALLY WRECK VS NEON INDIAN

A psych-geometric frenzy from our Texas heroes at Totally Wreck, messing with Neon Indian's (AM). 26 seconds of bad TV rapture, glitched triangles and hazy sounds - love it. Too short? Hey, that's the length of the song...

THIS LOOKS LIKE THE PLACE WHERE TOMORROW BEGINS

A gorgeous ad from the late 70's; a morning walk with a "trademark-dog" on a leash through a landscape of dazzling colors, animated by ghostly characters and punctuated by eerie sounds.
Acid graphics and a magnificient sound-design work. Five stars.

MELLOW ACID

We're pleased to announce that the first album from our mate P0lysick (one half of AAVV, actually...) will be out soon on Danny Wolfer/Legowelt's personal label, Strange Life Records: P0lysick himself assures it will be a collection of weird italodisco with some hypnagogic flavour, labeled as (er...) "mellow acid". Now, just watch the AAVV video for his first single, Smudge Hawaii:

IRAQUI POP

In a way, same sounds and same visions of Roma Est: arab pop music, messy porn and bad tv. Sublime Frequencies should check what's going on here: look forward to a "Folk and Pop Sounds from Torpignattara", we can definitely feel the pizza & kebab smell.

UNCOLA WITH BUBBLES

A true classic from Robert Abel and Associates: hallucinating soft drinks from the mid 70's, with bouncing bubbles and space butterflies. See the light.
